Terms of Use
Last updated: October 30, 2026
These terms are the rules for using Chess Rocket at chessrocket.com and in the Chess Rocket iPhone app. By creating an account or using Chess Rocket you agree to them. If you are under 18, please read them with a parent or guardian. Our Privacy Notice explains what we collect and how we use it.
Who Can Use Chess Rocket
- 13 and older: you can create an account yourself.
- Under 13: you can use Chess Rocket only with a parent's or guardian's permission. When you sign up we ask for your birthday; if you are under 13 we ask for a parent's email address instead of yours, and the account stays on a "waiting for your parent" screen until your parent approves it. If your parent says no, or doesn't answer within 14 days, the account is deleted.
- Your birthday must be true. It decides which features your account has and whether you can win contest prizes. You can't change it yourself after you enter it; contact us if it is wrong.
- One account per person. Keep your password private; you are responsible for what happens on your account.
Accounts for Children Under 13
To protect younger players, accounts for children under 13 are limited:
- No community features: no posts, comments, messages, member lists or public profile. Nobody can find or message a child on Chess Rocket.
- No profile photo, real name, bio, location or links, and no chat with our Rocket Bot assistant. Other players see only the child's username, for example next to their puzzle scores.
- No ads, no third-party trackers and no usage analytics.
- No contests, prizes or money. Children can play every training mode, puzzles, bots and online games, and see their own scores and rankings, but can't win prizes.
A parent or guardian can review the account, set a new password, take back permission or delete the account at any time from the private link in our emails or on the Parents page. See "Children" in our Privacy Notice.
Using Chess Rocket
- Chess Rocket is free. There are no paid features, subscriptions or in-app purchases.
- Play fair: don't use engines or other help in rated play or contests, don't cheat, and don't try to break, overload or get around the security of the service.
- Be kind. In the community (13 and older only), follow our Community Guidelines. We may remove content, limit features or close accounts that break these terms.
- Chess Rocket is in Free BETA: features change and some may not always be available. We may update or stop features at any time.
Weekly Puzzle Rocket Contest
On the website we run a free weekly Puzzle Rocket contest. The official rules are on the Puzzle Rocket page on chessrocket.com; in short:
- Every Puzzle Rocket run you finish while signed in counts toward the weekly rankings, whether you play on chessrocket.com or in the iPhone app.
- Prizes are only for players 13 or older. A winner's saved birthday must show 13 or older, and the winner must accept the official rules when claiming the prize on chessrocket.com. A player under 13 can appear in the rankings (by username only) but is skipped for prizes, and the prize goes to the next eligible player.
- Free to enter, no purchase necessary, one account per person. We may disqualify entries that break these terms or the official rules.
- Apple is not a sponsor of, and is not involved in, the contest. The iPhone app does not show the contest.
Your Content and Our Content
- You keep the rights to what you post. You let us show it on Chess Rocket so other members can see it, and you can delete it at any time.
- Chess Rocket's lessons, puzzles, art, bots, music and software belong to Chess Rocket or its licensors. Don't copy or resell them, except as allowed for Chess Rocket Radio music below.
Chess Rocket Radio Music
- You're free to use Chess Rocket Radio music in your streams, videos and podcasts, including monetized ones.
- Credit is appreciated but not required.
- Please don't resell the songs or upload them on their own (as standalone tracks or albums).
Ending Your Account
You can delete your account at any time (iPhone app: Profile, then Delete account; or email support@chessrocket.io). Parents can delete a child's account from their private link. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
Disclaimers
Chess Rocket is provided "as is". We work hard to keep it accurate and available, but we can't promise it will always be error-free or uninterrupted. To the extent the law allows, Chess Rocket is not liable for indirect or consequential losses.
Changes
If we change these terms we will update the date above, and for material changes we will tell signed-in users in the app or by email.
